Cookie isn't doing too well. She's down to only one fully functioning leg. She doesn't put any pressure on her back right leg, she can use it for balance but that's about it most of the time. She basically just hobbles around using her back left leg and her front left leg as a crutch. She doesn't seem to want to bend the front left one but can still put pressure on it.
She's still pretty good at hobbling around though. Still chases and barks at the new guys but afterwards she can barely make it up one step. No word from the vet. If we have to put her down, it looks like we might have to do it ourselves.

This weekend a few of us went to the Farasan Islands. It was my first chance to use my underwater digital camera in the sea since I bought it in November. I might've been too extreme with it, since it started fogging up after lunch and stopped working completely in the afternoon. I assumed the battery was dead but when I got home I noticed some water on the SD card. So these could be the last underwater photos for a while.

I shot some videos but they're pretty shaky. If I can edit them together into something that someone is able to watch without throwing up, I'll do that.

Farasan, Part I

The Farasan Islands are about 50km offshore from Jazan and are apparently the only part of this area of the KSA not completely modelled after District 9. According to the internet, there are dugongs there, but we didn't see any. We did see a few sea turtles, dolphins, rays, a shark and countless tropical fish. One of our guides caught both a sting ray and a turtle with his bare hands, which was pretty bad ass.

Yesterday, I awoke from my mid-afternoon nap to the sound of Arabic blasting through a PA system outside my window. When I got up to check it out, I wasn't surprised to find some military guy on a megaphone yelling at traffic. I was surprised, however, to see a machine gun turret parked outside my window. There was also about a half dozen military personel armed with SMGs and pistols. For a split second I was nervous. I assumed that they government was finally on to me and my history of habitually looking a girls faces and love of alcohol. Turns out some dude related to the King or something was visiting our hotel.

A few hours later, Jazan was attacked by a pretty awesome thunderstorm. I'm not sure if the guns and guards were there to fight it, but they were useless. The storm knocked out the power to the hotel and as far as we could see outside for almost an hour. The lobby had emergency lighting (which was the same as their regular lighting), so a few of us decided to hang out down there.

It was pretty eerie, knowing that the electricity was out while being in a situation that required armed military guards and machine guns mounted on SUVs.

I'm back in Heathrow. 4+ hours until departure = 4+ hours to fill up on my last few beers for the foreseeable future.
This airport smells like fart.
